SOP Update: Lines gang Training – NTTRA-1303

Following a recent operational incident and subsequent review at the Health & Safety Meeting held on 23 May 2025, the Lines gang Training Information SOP (NTTRA-1303) has been updated to reinforce safe practice during mooring operations.

The updated SOP now includes the following critical instruction:

"Before letting go mooring lines, all lines party crew must await direct instruction from the pilot. Do not commence mooring operations until the pilot has given clear authorization to proceed. When communicating line status, use standard terms 'gone' - indicates a line is free from the bollard, and 'clear' - confirms the line is not fouled or caught on any obstruction while being hauled aboard. Premature or misinterpreted action during this critical phase can result in damage to equipment or serious injury. Always maintain vigilance, communicate clearly, and treat every released line with caution."

All staff involved in mooring operations are required to ensure these procedures are strictly followed.

Stay safe.
